Overview

TheTimerLab (thetimerlab.com) is a free, browser-based timer utility. We do not require accounts, logins, or any form of registration. We do not collect, sell, or share personal information.

Data we do not collect

  • Names, email addresses, or any contact details
  • Payment information
  • Account credentials
  • Location data beyond the country-level derived from server logs
  • Personal timer settings or per-visitor usage history — all timer state is local to your browser. We record anonymous, aggregated counts of which timers are started and completed; see Analytics below.

Local storage

We store two items in your browser's localStorage: your light/dark mode preference (theme), and, if you install this site as an app, the date you first opened it (tl_pwa_first_seen) so we can tell whether installed apps get used again. Neither value leaves your device; only a coarse age band derived from the second one (for example “7–29 days”) is included in analytics. No cookies are set by this site.

Analytics

We use Umami Analytics, a privacy-focused, open-source analytics platform. Umami does not use cookies, does not collect personally identifiable information, and is fully compliant with GDPR, CCPA, and PECR. Page view data is aggregated and anonymised. IP addresses are not stored. You can verify this at umami.is/privacy.

Alongside page views we record a small number of anonymous events describing how the site is used: which timer was started and whether it ran to completion, whether the site was installed as an app, and whether an embed snippet was copied. These carry the timer's name, a coarse duration band (for example “60–300 seconds” rather than an exact figure), and whether you were using the website, the installed app, or an embedded timer. None of this identifies you.

Embedded timers

Our timers can be embedded on other websites. When you copy an embed snippet, we generate a short random code (for example k3f9x2) and place it in the snippet. That code lets us count how many embedded timers are live and still working. It identifies a placement on a web page, not a person — it is not linked to you, it is not stored in your browser, and it carries no information about you.

When an embedded timer loads, we record the hostname of the site it is embedded on (for example example.com), so we know where our timers are being used. We never record the page address, path, or query string of the site hosting the embed. Embedded timers report to a separate analytics profile and are excluded from our website's own traffic figures.

Service worker and caching

This site registers a service worker to enable offline use (PWA). The service worker caches static assets — JavaScript, CSS, and fonts — locally in your browser. No user data is cached or transmitted. You can clear the cache at any time via your browser's developer tools or settings.

Advertising

TheTimerLab may display advertisements served by third-party ad networks such as Google AdSense or Mediavine. These networks and their partners may use cookies, web beacons, and similar tracking technologies to collect information about your visits to this and other websites in order to serve relevant ads and measure their performance.

Beyond advertising, we do not embed tracking pixels, social media widgets, or external fonts that track users. No personal data is sold or shared with third parties for marketing purposes outside of the ad-serving context described above.

Children's privacy

TheTimerLab does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. The site contains no registration forms and no mechanism to submit personal data.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
