3 Minute Boxing Round Timer
The 3-minute round is the universal standard in amateur and professional boxing. Each 3-minute work interval is followed by a 60-second rest — the same format sanctioned by the AIBA and used in Olympic competition. This timer runs 6 rounds by default, matching a standard amateur bout, but you can extend it for longer training sessions. The 10-second preparation countdown lets you get your hands up and stance set before the bell sounds. A warning beep at 10 seconds remaining in each round signals you to finish your combination and return to center. Whether you're working the heavy bag, doing mitt work with a coach, or shadow boxing, this timer keeps the session honest and your rest periods disciplined.
Three minutes is long enough to force genuine aerobic and anaerobic conditioning but short enough to maintain explosive output throughout. Research on boxing training shows that 3-minute bouts with 60-second recoveries develop the specific energy system demands of competitive boxing better than either longer continuous work or shorter Tabata-style intervals.
